From New York's Greenwich Village to the charts, from the gay subculture to the mainstream: Village People decisively shaped the disco sound of the late 70s. Founded by producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, the band was made up of characters from the gay scene : motorcyclist, Indian, cowboy, construction worker, policeman and soldier. During their very successful career they created several world hits - among others Y.M.C.A., In The Navy, Macho Man and Go West. They were also on the charts in the 80's with songs like Can't Stop The Music and Sex Over The Phone.
