The Spiritual Giant.
John Coltrane is still one of the most outstanding saxophonists in jazz music. In the beginning he played only alto saxophone, from the early 1950s almost exclusively tenor and from 1960 also soprano saxophone. His innovations and inspired playing had a lasting influence on the jazz world. He recorded his legendary album „Blue Train“ for the Blue Note label and set new standards. The album was awarded gold in the USA, Great Britain, Canada and Italy. Coltrane‘s band mates from Miles Davis, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, both of whom had previously worked with pianist Kenny Drew, were also on the album. Both trumpeter Lee Morgan and trombonist Curtis Fuller were up-and-coming jazz musicians, and both were members of Art Blakey‘s Jazz Messengers at the time. „Blue Train is considered one of the milestones of jazz. Decades later, the album has lost none of its significance.
