Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, is one of the greatest Hollywood legends of all time. Famous for her comedic roles as a „blonde bombshell“, she became one of the most popular sex symbols in the 1950s and early 1960s, the symbol of the sexual revolution of the time and the top actress for the box office. She showed off her talent as a singer especially in her films. Often there were vocal interludes and duets with her film partners, which are known to this day us as her films are played over and over again without having lost their timeless charm. Marilyn Monroe was in her time the most famous and most photographed woman in the world. Today she is considered a pop icon, cult figure and legend. Many famous artists such as Salvador Dalí and Willem de Kooning have used Monroe‘s image in their paintings. Numerous musicians wrote songs about her. A famous example is Elton John‘s „Candle In The Wind.“ Her look has been copied by pop singers like Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Gwen Stefani or Christina Aguilera.
