Starship - Back Again!

Through The Decades.

Starship's story begins with Jefferson Airplane, the pioneering psychedelic rock band from San Francisco, formed in 1965. Known for hits like "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit," they became symbols of the 1960s counterculture and were headliners at Woodstock in 1969. By the early 1970s, Jefferson Airplane's lineup began to change. Paul Kantner, a founding member, formed Jefferson Starship in 1974, blending rock with mainstream elements and achieving success with songs like "Miracles." In 1984, after legal disputes, Kantner left, and the remaining members became Starship. Fronted by Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas, Starship embraced a pop-rock sound, distinct from Jefferson Airplane's psychedelic roots. Their debut album "Knee Deep in the Hoopla" (1985) included the hit "We Built This City," which, despite controversy, became an anthem of the 1980s. The band continued with hits like "Sara" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," the latter earning an Academy Award nomination. Starship evolved stylistically with the 1991 album "Love Among the Cannibals," blending hard rock and contemporary pop. Despite lineup changes, Starship's 1980s hits remain iconic, influencing popular culture and shaping the sound of that decade. Their ability to reinvent themselves - from Jefferson Airplane's psychedelic rock to Starship's pop-rock - shows remarkable resilience. Today, Starship continues to perform, blending nostalgia with fresh energy, ensuring their legacy endures. This album compiles their megahits in new versions, celebrating their lasting impact.
