Dionne Warwick - Live From The Syracuse Jazz Festival

Walk On By .

Dionne Warwick, born as Marie Dionne Warrick on December 12, 1940 in Orange, New Jersey, is one of the most significant voices in American pop music. With a career spanning over six decades, she enchants her audience with her warm, velvety voice and unmistakable phrasing. Raised in a family steeped in gospel music, she began her musical journey in church at an early age. Her major breakthrough came in the 1960s through her collaboration with Burt Bacharach and Hal David – together, they created classics such as “Walk On By,” “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” and “I Say a Little Prayer,” which became the sound of an entire era. In the 1970s, Warwick expanded her repertoire, celebrated successes with duets like “Then Came You,” and consistently adapted to changing musical tastes. In the 1980s, she was, among other things, involved in the AIDS charity single “That’s What Friends Are For.” Her elegant stage presence, clear diction, and emotional interpretation have inspired numerous artists, including Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. As a multi-Grammy-winning artist, she has sold over 75 million singles and 25 million albums worldwide. Even today, she tours and captivates her audience – a particular highlight was the concert recorded in 2003 at the Syracuse Jazz Festival.
