The Pointer Sisters - Greatest Hits Live In Concert

So Exited.

The Pointer Sisters were founded in the late 1960s by the sisters June and Bonnie Pointer, later joined by Anita and Ruth. After Bonnie’s departure in 1977, the trio experienced the greatest success of their career. With their unique mix of R&B, soul, pop, funk, jazz, rock, and country, along with precise harmonies and a dynamic stage presence, they set new standards in American pop music. Raised in the gospel tradition, they broke through genre boundaries and achieved international acclaim. In 1973, their debut album was released on Blue Thumb Records, and in 1974 it won the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for “Fairytale” – a historic achievement for African-American women. Elvis Presley honored them by covering “Fairytale” live. In the 1970s, the trio refined their sound with influences from funk, jazz, and soul. With Planet Records, the album Energy followed in 1978, which broke into the mainstream with a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Fire.” The pinnacle came in the early 1980s with the album Break Out (1983), featuring hits such as “Jump (For My Love),” “Automatic,” and “Neutron Dance,” and earning two Grammys. In 1984, “I’m So Excited” was added as an encore to capitalize on its growing radio success. Their energetic music videos, live performances, and songs like “Neutron Dance” (among others featured in Beverly Hills Cop) continue to shape the image of the ‘80s. A wonderful reminder of this unique era and their biggest hits is the 2004 concert at the Alberta Bair Theater in Billings, Montana.
